The effects of the chemical structure of polycarboxylate-type superplasticizers on the performance of cement paste were investigated.Comb-like copolymers named APEG(2000)-co-MA were synthesized by free radical polymerization with varied molecular structures.Copolymer structures were characterized by Fourier transmissions infrared spectra.The effects of the copolymers on the properties of cement pastes were investigated by mortar flow,calorimetric measurements,and adsorption measurements.It was found that copolymers with a low side chain density,a medium charge density and a highest molecular mass show a higher dispersing power and a higher absorption on cement particles,consequently causing a stronger effect on cement hydration.
